Poetry is alive and well and quite diverse in Birmingham.
The Second Annual My Favorite Poem Community reading will feature various members of the local community who will read their favorite poems and talk about how poetry is important to their lives.
It’s THIS Friday (September 28) at 7 p.m. in the lecture hall at the Alabama School of Fine Arts (1800 8th Avenue North in downtown Birmingham).
The event is free, and there is a reception afterward in the school’s lobby.
I’ll be reading, along with Don Stewart, Veronica Kennedy, R.A. Nelson, Manisha Mishar, Dr. William "Bill" Colvin, Rachael Dykes, Elizabeth Downs, D.S. Pearson, Jennifer Forsythe, Rickey Powell, Kaitie Sneed, George Sarris and George Wallace, Jr.
The emcee for the evening is Jim Reed, owner of Reed Books—an absolutely great place for books and so much more. Irene Latham, poet and all-round fantastic person, is the evening’s producer.
Thanks to John Northrop, Stuart Flynn, Liz Reed and parents of ASFA Creative Writing Department for hospitality.
